THE GOOD LIFE
The Languedoc is famed for its slow pace of life and the wonderfully friendly, vivacious locals. Somehow, much of the Languedoc has managed to escape excessive development and it remains a true picture of real France.
The town and village markets offer dazzling displays and wonderful aromas of locally sourced produce. Delicious fruit and vegetables, amazingly fresh fish and meat can be found in the higgledy-piggledy streets and squares, crammed with market stalls selling their delicacies and wares.
Local beaches are clean and safe, with gently sloping shores are crystal clear water. Local shops and restaurants are welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A wonderful place to while away the days, Villa Karli is a home away from home offering everything a family holiday requires.
Colour in the vineyards
With a population of just over 1100 inhabitants, Creissan is a typical Languedoc village, nestled between the sea and mountains. The commune of Creissan was first mentioned as far back as 952AD and the village church, l'eglise Saint-Martin, dates back to 1132.
The charm of the vineyards baking under the hot Midi sun, the heavy perfume of thyme, lavender and rosemary in the air, the crickets' melodical song and the tranquility of the countryside are all things that need to be experience to be properly understood.
Villa Karli is located in the heart of the village, just behind the mairie (town hall) and village square. Around the square, you'll find a well-stocked general store-deli; Chateau Creissan, the village wine cave, where you can sample and buy a wonderful range of village wines and fantastic prices and St Magdalena, the village bar-café-grill-pizzeria, which offers a selection of homemade pizzas, delicious salads and their daily 3 course meal (plat du jour). Creissan wouldn't be a propert French village without the obligatory boulangerie/patisserie and this can be found just round the corner from the square selling fabulous baguettes, viennoiserie as well as handmade cakes, gateaux and other delights.
A few streets further away, you can find the post office, tabacconists, tapas wine bar as well as some other locals shops and services.
